Description

Designed for QNDCO, a quantum technologies company established under COMPRO, this project was developed as a next-generation Research & Development Center within Istanbul Technical University's Ayazağa Technopark. The architectural concept was developed by Fi Design Office, while the construction and implementation were carried out in collaboration with MTH Architecture & Engineering. Combining research laboratories, collaborative workspaces, social areas, and flexible meeting environments, the project establishes a contemporary workplace tailored to the rapidly evolving field of quantum technologies.

The design vision was inspired by the innovative nature of the company itself. The quantum technologies office embraces a futuristic architectural language defined by clean geometries, stainless steel finishes, cool-toned materials, and carefully integrated lighting elements. Every design decision was made to reflect precision, innovation, and technological advancement while creating a comfortable and highly functional working environment for researchers, engineers, and multidisciplinary teams.

The existing office layout was completely reorganized to improve spatial efficiency and user experience. The building's original entrance foyer was transformed into the company's welcoming lobby, creating a contemporary technology company reception design that serves as the central social hub of the workplace. The reception seamlessly integrates lounge areas, kitchen facilities, and shared amenities, encouraging interaction and collaboration throughout the day while strengthening the overall identity of the workplace.

As a research-oriented company, QNDCO required spaces capable of supporting continuous learning and knowledge sharing. For this reason, a flexible training room design was developed to accommodate seminars, workshops, technical presentations, and internal educational programs. Designed with adaptability in mind, the space can easily be reconfigured to support different functions without compromising comfort or efficiency.

The same multifunctional area also serves as a sophisticated conference hall interior design, allowing the company to host presentations, conferences, product launches, and team meetings within a single flexible environment. Movable meeting tables and a ceiling-mounted curtain system enable the space to transform quickly according to changing needs. Acting as both a visual and acoustic divider, the curtain system allows the conference area to operate independently whenever required.

To further enhance learning experiences, the project incorporates an amphitheater-style training space, providing improved visibility and audience engagement during presentations and educational sessions. The stepped seating arrangement creates a more dynamic environment while maximizing the functionality of the available floor area.

Meeting rooms throughout the office were carefully designed to support focused discussions and collaborative work. The acoustic meeting room design incorporates sound-absorbing materials, controlled lighting, and high-performance finishes to ensure comfortable communication during long technical meetings. Existing floor finishes were upgraded with modular carpet tiles, significantly improving acoustic comfort while providing durability suitable for intensive daily use.

Material selection played a key role in expressing the technological identity of the project. Stainless steel finishes were introduced throughout the interior to reinforce the futuristic concept, particularly through the office stainless steel wall cladding design, which creates a clean, high-tech architectural expression. Cool gray tones and metallic surfaces are balanced with warm timber elements, creating an environment that feels both advanced and welcoming.

Custom-built furniture was developed specifically for the project to maximize functionality and spatial coherence. The office wooden shelving system design provides integrated storage solutions for technical documentation, laboratory equipment, and everyday office use while maintaining the project's minimalist architectural language. All fixed joinery was custom manufactured, while workstations, meeting tables, and seating were supplied by Zivella, ensuring high standards of ergonomics, flexibility, and long-term durability.

Beyond its architectural identity, the project also required substantial technical infrastructure to support advanced research activities. As a comprehensive R&D office interior architecture project, dedicated electrical systems, power distribution networks, and technical infrastructure were designed and installed to meet the specific operational requirements of quantum computing laboratories. Every technical system was coordinated alongside the architectural design to ensure the laboratories could operate safely, efficiently, and without interruption.

The QNDCO Quantum Technologies Research Center represents a workplace where architecture supports innovation, collaboration, and scientific research. Combining laboratory infrastructure, flexible educational environments, collaborative workspaces, and a refined futuristic aesthetic, the project demonstrates how interior architecture can respond to the complex needs of emerging technologies. Today, the center stands as a contemporary research environment within ITU Ayazağa Technopark, reflecting a forward-looking vision where architecture, technology, and innovation come together to shape the future of scientific discovery.
