Description
Located in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, First Optical Store was conceived as more than a retail environment; it was designed as an immersive architectural experience where eyewear retail meets contemporary interior architecture. Developed by Fi Design, the project transforms the conventional optical store into a refined spatial composition that prioritizes user experience, product presentation, and material integrity. Through a carefully orchestrated combination of architecture, lighting, and custom furniture design, the project establishes a sophisticated identity that reflects the brand while elevating the customer journey.
The design process began with a comprehensive analysis of customer circulation, product display strategies, and functional requirements. Rather than creating a purely commercial interior, the project was envisioned as a contemporary retail space where architecture actively supports interaction between visitors and products. Every spatial decision was driven by the desire to create a seamless shopping experience, allowing customers to comfortably explore, compare, and experience eyewear within a calm and elegant atmosphere.
The interior layout carefully balances display areas, consultation spaces, circulation routes, and waiting zones to ensure intuitive movement throughout the store. This thoughtful organization transforms the project into a modern retail environment where functionality and aesthetics coexist seamlessly. Every element contributes to a holistic interior architecture concept that strengthens both operational efficiency and spatial quality.
Custom-designed cabinetry plays a defining role throughout the project. All display furniture was manufactured specifically for the store using a combination of natural wood veneers and premium lacquer finishes. The warmth of timber contrasts elegantly with the refined surfaces of lacquered elements, creating a timeless material palette that reinforces the architectural identity of the space. Beyond their functional purpose, these bespoke furniture pieces become integral architectural components that shape the character of the interior.
One of the project's signature details is the illuminated backdrop behind the eyewear displays. Barisol stretch ceiling technology was integrated into the feature walls to create evenly diffused lighting that enhances product visibility while adding depth and sophistication to the display system. This solution transforms the shelving into architectural focal points, allowing each eyewear collection to be presented with exceptional visual clarity and elegance.
Materiality was approached with equal attention throughout the interior. Both the walls and ceilings were finished using premium Italian decorative paint, introducing subtle textures that enrich the spatial experience without overwhelming the minimalist composition. The restrained colour palette, combined with the warmth of natural wood, creates an atmosphere that feels contemporary, welcoming, and timeless.
Lighting design was considered one of the project's most important architectural elements. A flexible magnetic track lighting system integrated into the suspended ceiling works in combination with adjustable spotlights to provide precise illumination for each display area. This layered lighting strategy ensures optimal product presentation while maintaining visual comfort throughout the store. Rather than functioning solely as technical equipment, the lighting becomes an essential architectural feature that defines the mood and spatial rhythm of the interior.
The storefront was designed as a natural extension of the interior concept. Transparency, clean geometry, and carefully framed sightlines establish a strong visual connection between the street and the retail space. The façade invites pedestrians into the store while communicating the brand's contemporary identity through architecture rather than excessive signage or commercial graphics.
The project's interior architecture concept is fundamentally experience-driven. Every design decision prioritizes customer interaction, allowing visitors to browse, try on, and compare eyewear in a relaxed and intuitive environment. Seating areas, consultation points, and display systems were carefully positioned to encourage comfortable movement and meaningful engagement between customers, products, and staff.
Although the retail space occupies a relatively compact footprint, the design maximizes every square metre through efficient planning and integrated storage solutions. Rather than allowing spatial limitations to define the project, the layout transforms a compact floor plan into a spacious and highly functional retail environment. Hidden storage, integrated display systems, and uncluttered circulation contribute to a clean architectural language that enhances both functionality and visual openness.
Birinci Optical Store represents a contemporary interpretation of optical retail architecture, where minimalist design, natural materials, and advanced lighting technologies come together to create a refined shopping experience. The restrained architectural language, carefully curated material palette, and custom detailing establish a strong yet understated identity that aligns with the expectations of today's premium retail environments.
Rather than serving as a conventional eyewear shop, the project functions as an architectural platform for product presentation and customer interaction. Every design element—from the bespoke wooden furniture and Barisol feature walls to the Italian decorative finishes and precision lighting system—contributes to an immersive environment where architecture enhances both functionality and perception.
Designed entirely by Fi Design, the project demonstrates how thoughtful interior architecture can redefine contemporary retail spaces through material quality, spatial clarity, and experience-focused design. The result is a sophisticated optical store where architecture becomes an active participant in the customer journey, creating a timeless retail environment that reflects both the brand's identity and the principles of contemporary design.
